Merran Coleman
About:
Merran's work visualises alternative realities. He invites viewers to critique the disenchanted state of modernity, by offering a vision of a world in which strange spiritual practices provide meaning and connection with nature.
Through highly detailed, labour-intensive ink work, Merran creates intricate worlds. Often working in monochrome due to colour blindness, each drawing is the result of sustained, meditative focus. The physical process is central to his practice. time, repetition, and precision becoming a way to slow down and step inside the imagined spaces.
Merran's final project is a retelling of Tristan and Isolde, set in a speculative future Cornwall. The project envisions pages of a future religious book, detailing the collapse of modern civilisation and the subsequent mythos which develops as a result.
