Henrietta Heron
About:
Hey it’s Henrietta I’m a writer and illustrator living off grid on a farm on the Lizard Peninsula with my children and cat.
My current body of work addresses child death and the afterlife in my picture book ‘Poppy and the Horse’. The subject matter is close is to my heart, following the sudden death of my eldest daughter when she was seven, and so has felt necessary for me to complete. Societally, however, discussion around death can be shrouded in avoidance and euphemistic language and imagery, particularly for children.
My challenges have been to tackle the project with sensitivity, clarity and an overall feeling of hope, whilst dealing with the physical limitations of my off grid lifestyle.
Collage has been the medium that has filled the tiny table in my tiny home for the last few months , paper horses falling in our dinner and a forest of coloured trees pushed aside for film nights.
I wouldn’t have it any other way!
